There are many accounts about the origins on the Greenwell name. All very interesting. But for me I just couldn't make a direct connection to any of them, although I am sure we are connected some how.

The name Greenwell came originally from a town called Grenville in Normandy. The "de Grenville Family" came over to England with the Norman conquest, and were then given lands in Northumberland and Co Durham. The first recorded Greenwell was Guillaume de Grenewelle, the descendent of this family is well recorded in "Debretts and Burke's Peerage" (found in any good reference library). "Credits given to Eve Greenwell from  Durham for this account."
